The unexpected adventure of an unexpected heroine.
She never knew that the night could be scary. That was the reason she agreed to this stupid dare in the first place. Lurielle Slyder cautiously trekked through a bush of Rhipe Flowers on all fours. She was a big girl now, and have had many experiences of strolling in the late night. Thus, when her best friends, Skye and Chelle, double-dog-dared her to take a midnight trek through the Misty Forest and bring back a Moondrop flower, she thought it would be a piece of cake... That is, until she realised that one could barely see in the forest at night when the canopy cuts off all moonlight and when one freaking bat nearly scared her to death and made her cower on the ground when it launched an ambush attack on her. Well, you can't forfeit a double-dog-dare. It's practically unholy. Lurielle was pretty sure she'd get cursed if she did. So there was nothing else to do now but get it over with.
One step at a time, I can do this! Lurielle continued her slow crawl towards the center of the forest where it was said that moondrops blossom in frenzies.
This was totally not what she had in mind when she planned this camping trip. It was Chelle's birthday, they were supposed to be having fun! Well, she guessed that the two she left behind are probably having fun but crawling on all fours in complete darkness was definitely not her idea of fun. But she had to admit the idea of giving Chelle a never-seen-before Moondrop would be fantastic since it would trump Skye's rainbow-coloured ribbon as a birthday gift.
She spotted some light in the front and heaved a sigh of relief. She could probably walk if she could see where she was going. Lurielle quickened the crawling towards the light. As she got closer, she heard footsteps.
Weird. Why the heck are there footsteps in the middle of the night and amidst the Misty Forest? You'd think she was the only one here since it was a well-known fact that the Misty Forest was spooked and no one dared to enter. Perhaps it was a ghost? How swell! A ghost was much more interesting than the stupid bats and owls she's seen so far! She dodged behind a fat Cheri Tree, out of sight, and peered over. She could hear the footsteps more clearly now, it went thunk cluunk thunk clunk... What?! Scale-plated armor?! This was certainly no ghost! It was a soldier! And by the look of those scales, it was a dragon soldier without a doubt. Lurielle trembled against her will. What was a dragon soldier doing here? More footsteps were heard and with another peek, Lurielle confirmed that there was a small army on guard. Her heart sank. This is not a good sign. Would that mean that she is trespassing on some military secret? If the soldier caught her, she'd be a goner! The dragon forces were known to be tyrannical and beastly! What if they decide to behead her and the whole Fox Village?! Unthinkable! She had to hide and escape!
Think quickly now, Lurielle. Come on! She scrunched up her face in consternation. There was tall willow tree nearby. The leaves drooping down like a curtain could be a good hiding spot! She shuffled quietly towards the willow tree and dissapeared behind the curtain of leaves. Lurielle sighed a breath of relief. This should keep her safe for a while. The double-dog-dare forgotten, she spotted a hole in the fat trunk of the tree. Figuring that she'd be safer and more out-of-sight inside, she lowered herself into the hole gently. Amazingly, she could fit with spaces to spare. Lurielle squirmed around again trying to make herself feel comfortable since she didn't know when she could get out of here. When she leant back to rest her head, she heard a click.
The next thing she knew, she was sliding down to god-knows-where at lightning speed.
